Power Outages Across Montgomery Affect 1.2K: Officials

Power outages were reported across Montgomery County, how to report an outage.

BETHESDA, MD — High winds and rain have knocked out power in scattered outages across Montgomery County, with roughly 1,200 customers without electricity at 1:30 p.m., according to Pepco's online outage maps. About 800 of those customers in the dark were in the Bethesda area.

Pepco spokesperson Marcus Beal said a downed tree brought down some power lines in the Bethesda area earlier today. Beal told Montgomery Community Mediait’s hard to say if all the current outages are weather related.

According to the National Weather Service, a wind advisory has been extended to 7 p.m. Monday. It was set to expire at 4 p.m. Residents will continue to deal with east winds at 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph throughout the day.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesman Pete Piringer said via Twitter that emergency crews have dealt with downed trees in Bethesda, Aspen Hill and other areas. Residents should report any downed limbs or trees to 3-1-1 and to stay away from any downed wires. Piringer said if you see wires down, treat them as live and call 9-1-1.
