Rabid Fox Attacks Woman, 2 Dogs: Police

ROCKVILLE, MD — Residents are being urged by police to remain cautious when outdoors after a woman and two dogs were attacked by a rabid fox.

The Rockville City Police Department said Saturday that officials were alerted to two incidents that occurred "in and around the Potomac Woods and Horizon Hills neighborhoods."

The fox is said to have attacked a woman and her dog in one incident, with a separate event involving another dog in the area.

Police said the woman had suffered a minor injury while she attempted to separate her dog and the fox. Authorities did not specify the extent of the injury.

Officials are advising the public to remain aware of their surroundings and to either keep pets indoors or keep a close eye on them while outdoors.

Contact with any wild animals that appear to be aggressive or sick should be avoided at all costs. Anyone who sees the fox or another animal acting strangely should contact the department at (240) 314-8900.
