Rockville Accepting Applications To Fill Vacancy On City Council

Rockville government officials are accepting applications to fill a vacant seat on the city council. The deadline is Friday, Feb. 22.

ROCKVILLE, MD — The City of Rockville is searching for a resident interested in filling a vacancy on the city's council.

Julie Palakovich Carr, a Democrat who has served on the council since 2013, left her post in early January to represent her constituents in the Maryland House of Delegates. The candidate selected will serve the rest of her term on the council.

City officials are accepting applications until 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22. Visit www.rockvillemd.gov/councilvacancy for submission details.

"Candidates are required to submit a narrative of their relevant experience and background, a statement of their priorities and vision for the city, and a financial disclosure statement," officials said in a press statement. "All application materials received by the city, with the exception of the financial disclosure statements, will be publicly posted to the city’s website. Candidates are limited to no more than 1,000 words on the narrative of their relevant experience and background and statement of their priorities and vision for the city."

In addition to submitting an application, candidates will be interviewed by the mayor and council members.

Two dates have been scheduled for candidate interviews:
  • Saturday, March 2
  • Tuesday, March 5

City officials will conduct the interviews at City Hall located at 111 Maryland Ave. They will be held in open session, broadcasted on channel 11, and live streamed here, according to city officials.
