Friday, August 12:
- Bethesda Restaurant Week kicks off today and continues through Aug. 21.
- The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair opens today through Saturday, August 20. Today the gates open at 3 p.m.
- The Sidleys perform at the Bethesda Metro Station Plaza from 6 to 9 p.m. Free.
- Friday Night Live Concert Series at Rockville Town Square features the King Teddy Band at 6:30 p.m. Free.
- Wrap the work week up with Gaithersburgās Zumba in the Park at the City Hall Concert Pavilion at 7 p.m.
- The Hipocrites, a Chicago-based repertory company, present The Pirates of Penzance rotating with The Mikado at Olney Theatre. Tonightās performance is The Mikado at 7:45 p.m.
- The Cindy Blackman Santana Group perform at Bethesda Beach & Jazz Supper Club at 8 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
- Arts on the Green and Wildwood Summer Theatre presents the musical Nine at Gaithersburgās Arts Barn at 8 p.m.
- AFI Silver Screens is a new free outdoor film series in downtown Silver Springās Veterans Plaza. Tonightās movie is "Frozen."
- We found two opportunities to observe the Perseids Meteor Shower; the Gaithersburg Latitude Observatory and Rockvilleās Welsh Park.

- The Anatomy of Sports is a free workshop open to the public at the National Museum of Health and Medicine to learn how bones and muscles work together for optimal sports performance. Workshop starts at 10:30 a.m.
- Model trains will be on display during Train Day at Gaithersburgās Community Museum from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- AFI Silver Theatre is hosting classic Looney Tunes cartoons this month on weekend mornings at 11 a.m.
- The 14th Annual African Cultural Festival takes place this weekend at Veterans Plaza from 1 to 8 p.m. The festival features music, dance performances, African cuisine, games and much more.
- The Agricultural Fair continues at the county fairgrounds. The Haai Shark Encounter is new this year with shows at noon, 2, 4 and 8 p.m.
- The Hipocrites, a Chicago-based repertory company, present The Pirates of Penzance rotating with The Mikado at Olney Theatre. Today you may choose The Mikado at 1 p.m. or The Pirates of Penzance at 7:45 p.m.
- Arts on the Green and Wildwood Summer Theatre presents the final performances of the musical Nine at Gaithersburgās Arts Barn at 2 and 8 p.m.
- Itās comedy night at Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club with Joe Clair & Friends. Two performances at 5 and 9:30 p.m.
- BandHouse Gigs presents a tribute to David Bowie at the Fillmore Silver Spring at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, August 14:
- Marylandās sales tax free week for school supplies and clothing begins today and continues through Saturday, August 20.
- AFI Silver Theatre features Warner Brothersā Looney Tunes cartoons this month, presented on 35 mm prints on the big screen.
- Take a tour of the Metropolitan Ballet Theatre & Academy studios during their open house from noon to 3 p.m. Free sample classes are scheduled throughout the afternoon.
- The 14th Annual African Cultural Festival takes place on Veterans Plaza from 1 to 8 p.m. The festival features music, dance performances, African cuisine, games and much more.
- The Agricultural Fair continues at the county fairgrounds. The animal exhibits open today.
- Take a tour of the Glen Echo Volunteer Fire Department and enjoy a free dinner at their recruitment barbecue. Please RSVP if you plan to attend.
- The Hipocrites, a Chicago-based repertory company, present The Pirates of Penzance rotating with The Mikado at Olney Theatre. Today you may choose The Pirates of Penzance at 1 p.m. or The Mikado 4:45 p.m.
- Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club present DC Fusion at 7:30 p.m.
