Snowstorm Prompts Rockville to Close Facilities

The snow moving through the region has led Rockville to close city facilities Saturday, and cancel a ballet and symphony concert.

The snowstorm moving through the region has prompted the City of Rockville to close all recreation facilities Saturday afternoon, Feb. 21. Montgomery County earlier activated its snow emergency plan.

Closures include the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center, Lincoln Park Community Center, Thomas Farm Community Center, Twinbrook Community Center and Croydon Creek Nature Center are closing at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Rockville Senior Center closed at 12:30 p.m.

All City of Rockville recreation classes after 2 p.m. are canceled.

All youth basketball league games beginning at 1 p.m. and after are canceled.

The National String Symphonia concert at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre is canceled for this evening. The concert has been rescheduled for March 29.

The Rockville Civic Ballet has canceled the 1 p.m.-5 p.m. “Swan Lake” ballet rehearsal at Rockcrest Ballet Center.

There is a winter storm warning in effect for Montgomery County until 9 a.m. Sunday calling for several inches of snow and possibly some ice.

The Maryland State Highway Administration is urging people to delay their travels on Saturday due to deteriorating conditions.
