Son Charged With Murdering Mother Outside Rockville Church

Police say a 21-year-old man has been charged with killing his mother outside a Rockville church.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A 21-year-old man on Saturday has been charged with killing his mother outside a Rockville church, according to authorities.

Kevin Justin McGuigan, of Grosvenor Place in Rockville, was arrested at a local gas station by Montgomery County Police at 7 a.m. on Saturday. He was charged for the first-degree murder of his mother, 49-year-old Jaclyn McGuigan, of Marwood Court in Rockville.

Police said Jaclyn McGuigan was murdered in front of Saint Raphael Catholic Church and School on Friday, Dec. 28. At about 6 p.m., units responded to the report of an assault at 1513 Dunster Rd. When officers arrived, they found Jaclyn McGuigan suffering from trauma to her upper body. Police said her wounds "appeared to be from a cutting type of instrument."

Jaclyn McGuigan died from her injuries at the scene, according to authorities.

Witnesses told police that they heard loud screaming coming from outside the church and saw Kevin McGuigan standing over his mother. Police said Kevin McGuigan then fled the scene in his mother's Honda sedan.

Less than an hour later, police found the car abandoned at Falls Road Local Park. They said Kevin McGuigan's belongings were inside the vehicle.

Jaclyn McGuigan's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Prior to Friday's slaying, Jaclyn McGuigan had filed a protective order against her son. According to court records, the protective order was filed in February of 2016.
