Winter Weather Advisory Includes Montgomery County Dec 27

ROCKVILLE, MD — Expect slick roads as snow falls Wednesday morning in Montgomery County, which is under a winter weather advisory. The National Weather Service issued the advisory at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday; it takes effect at 2 a.m. and runs until 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27.

The Weather Service says light snow is likely ahead of and through the morning drive to work. "Plan on slippery road conditions, including during the morning commute on Wednesday. Total snow accumulation of a coating to 1 inch is likely."

Areas included in the advisory are the Baltimore metropolitan area, and Montgomery County, along with Howard, Harford and Carroll counties in Maryland, along with Loudon County in northern Virginia.

Any light snow that falls can cause many roads to quickly turn icy due to the recently cold conditions. This could lead to dangerous traveling conditions, multiple accidents, and extensive delays during the morning commute for Wednesday, says the weather service.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

Snow could fall on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Saturday night, says the National Weather Service. Tuesday afternoon the Weather Service warned of a potential winter commuting hazard for the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. region on Wednesday morning.

Here is the forecast:

Wednesday: Isolated snow showers before 8am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 27. Northwest wind 7 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 16. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 25. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph.
Thursday Night: A slight chance of snow showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 30.
Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22.
Saturday: A chance of snow after 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 31. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Saturday Night: A chance of snow before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 19. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 28.
Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 16.
New Year's Day: Mostly sunny, with a high near 27.
