Cathy Vitale Meets with Folger McKinsey Girl Scouts

On January 16, Delegate Cathy Vitale spoke with Junior Girl Scout Troops 1788 and 184 as well as Brownie Troop 2000. Sarah Jeffers (Troop 1788) welcomed Delegate Vitale and summarized the Delegate’s experience and background for the audience.

Delegate Vitale represents District 33A, which includes Severna Park.  She was elected to the House of Delegates in 2011 and serves on the House Environmental Matters Committee.  She explained that she originally got involved in politics when she was in middle school and has
continued ever since.  Before being elected to the House of Delegates, she served on the County Council where she
helped get money to rebuild Folger McKinsey Elementary.

Delegate Vitale spoke about how a bill becomes a law and new bills that are being considered during this Legislative
Session.  One bill that generated a lot of interest from the girls concerned changing the minimum age to be able to
drive to 17.  Current law permits people who are 16 to apply for their learner’s permit. Many of the girls thought that this would be a very bad idea and urged Delegate Vitale to vote against the bill.
