No doubt you have noticed that it is Girl Scout Cookie time
in Maryland. Oak Hill Elementary School’s
Junior Girl Scout Troop 1771 has been particularly successful in selling not only for neighbor’s immediate consumption, but also in collecting donations of
cookies to distribute to others in the Gift of Caring program. These cookies are then delivered to community
heroes and military personnel. This troop has sold 263 boxes thus far for Operation Welcome Home and for shipment to military personnel overseas. The
troop is particularly inspired to support our service members in that one of their numbers had a parent recently deploy.
This week, the troop was honored by the Girl Scouts of
Central Maryland as the winners of the “Who Has the Biggest Heart” contest at Camp Ilchester and will be featured on the cover of Girls World Magazine in
January. With the motto “every box counts” sales are still brisk. The girls were busy manning cookie booths on Election Day at several polling locations. The troop is led by Katie Bartel, Lauren Carbo and Vanessa Howe.
Pamela “Cookie” Drummond directs the cookie sales.
