SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK Live!

Severna Park Middle School and the Spartan Lyrical Society present Schoolhouse Rock Live!

Get ready to “Unpack Your Adjectives,” “Do the Circulation,” and take a trip down memory lane as over eighty Severna Park Middle School students bring a 1970’s pop culture phenomenon to the stage. Schoolhouse Rock Live! is based on the Emmy Award-winning cartoon series that used clever, tuneful songs to teach kids about math, history, politics, grammar, and more. It’s learning with a beat!

The show follows Michael, (Michael Bateman, eighth grader) a nerve-wracked schoolteacher anxious about his first day on the job. When he tries to relax in front of the TV, the characters come to life right there in his living room. They show Michael how to win over his students with music and imagination and remind him that learning should be fun. Together Michael and the gang sing and dance their way through such beloved Schoolhouse Rock favorites as “Just A Bill,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and “Conjunction Junction.”

The show is being directed by Jose de la Mar who is working with Music Director, Cullen Cummiskey for their sixth year together at SPMS.  In addition, there are two SPHS sophmores working with the group.  Maddie Haughton is the choreographer mapping out the moves for over twenty individual numbers.  Alli McClare is the Assistant Director, for the first time making the jump from acting to directing.  Whether you grew up watching Schoolhouse Rock or are experiencing it for the first time, you’re sure to enjoy some good, clean – and educational – fun!
