At this year's Maryland State Championship swim meet held March 7-10, SPY swimmer David Sears was named the 2011-2012 Maryland Swimmer of the Year for his age group. This is Maryland Swimming's highest honor for age group swimmers, and is an extremely competitive award.
Competing as a 12 year-old during the 2012 Long Course season, David was ranked #1 simultaneously in 50 breast stroke, 100 breast stroke and 200 breast stroke. This was the first time that any single swimmer has held all of these titles in one season.
After his performance in the 2012 Maryland State Long Course Championship meet, David was the fastest 12 year old breast-stroker ever to compete in Maryland. David was also ranked nationally in the 11-12 age group in 50 Breast, 100 Breast and 200 Breast.
