St. Martin's in-the-Field Episcopal Basketball Round Up

The St. Martin’s in-the-Field Episcopal School basketball season came to an exciting end recently.  

The schoolbfielded 2 boys and 1 girls team in the league with local private middle schools.  Each year, the season ends with a play day where coaches, parents, school staff, and players from all three teams are scrambled into smaller teams for an afternoon of fun games.

The boys B team, coached by local Severna Park High School student Cole Duncan, finished with a 9-1 record.

The team, composed of 5^th and 6^th graders from the school, was led in scoring by Garrett Nilsen (89 points) and Thomas Bullen (60 points), Will Brodbeck (55 points) and Mitchell White (53 points).  Jonathan Matta earned the “defensive hustle” award for his pressure defense.

The boys A team, coached by parent Kevin Fitzgerald and local Severna Park High School student Griffin Wild, finished with a 6-2 season.  Scoring was equally divided among the 7^th and 8^th graders; they were led by Lucas Wright (52 points), Tony McHale-McFarlin (51 points) and Hunter Sheely (50 points).  Cameron Fitzgerald earned the “defensive hustle” award for relentlessly pursuing the ball and forcing turnovers.    

The girls team, coached by Athena Mears from Severna Park High School, finished with a 3-5 record.  The team was led in scoring by the Reiter sisters, Lindsay (8^th grade) and Ashley (6^th grade).  The “defensive hustle” award was earned by both Emily Bradshaw and Marley Watkins for working together well and always pressuring the ball. 

The school, located on Benfield Road in Severna Park, has field hockey and soccer teams in the fall, basketball in the winter, and starting in a few weeks girls and boys lacrosse teams.
