Despite Rain, SPCC Golf Outing a Success

The event was held at Chartwell Golf and Country Club and raised funds for the center and Heroes of Tomorrow.

Despite Monday’s crazy weather, the Severna Park Community Center’s 17th Annual Golf Tournament at Chartwell Golf and Country Club was a great success.

Community center director Jennie Boden said that when she woke up on Monday morning, she was concerned the weather was going to damper the event, but she was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

“It was soggy but in between the rain I think everyone had a lot of fun,” Boden said. “Everybody stuck with us—I was surprised. The course was in incredible shape.”

This year’s tournament raised funds from the community center as well as a program called Heroes of Tomorrow, which is run by Stew Smith.

“It’s a great program,” Boden said. “Stew trains young men and women here at the center free of charge who are interested in entering the military, law enforcement or fire fighting. He provides them with physical training for free.”

Boden said they are still counting the total amount of funds raised at the event.
