AAUW “Our Gals in Washington”
The Anne Arundel County Branch of the American Association of University Women will meet at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Severna Park on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 7pm. The program for the evening is entitled "Our Gals in Washington".
The month of March has been designated as "Women's Month". We have chosen this time to showcase one of the most important charges of AAUW, working for women's rights. The Lobby Corp is a primary function of AAUW members. They go directly to our congressmen and women to support legislation which will be beneficial to all women. This Lobby Corp has been active in seeing the Ledbetter Bill passed and signed into law. It requires equal pay for women. Another issue is "Illegal Trafficking of Women and Girls" in the U.S. as well as in Maryland. They are currently lobbing for the “Violence Against Women Act”. Our panel will consist of our chapter members who lobby. They will discuss issues that they are working on as well as provide information on how all members can become active in the pursuit of women's rights.
