Local Author Profile: Stormy Friday
Get an inside look at one of the authors appearing at the book signing for local authors at Severna Park Library on Saturday.

Stormy Friday is the president of The Friday Group, a facilities management consulting company based in Annapolis. Friday has published two non-fiction books on the subject of Facilities Management and has been operating her company for over 25 years.
When she is not busy running her company, Friday is inspired to write. Four years ago, she made her first foray into children’s books. How does a busy executive find time to write? “I write my books on airplanes,“ she replied.
During her frequent travels, Friday was surprised to find that parents or caregivers traveling on planes with kids rarely had anything for the kids to read. This observation planted a seed.

“If I could write children’s books that had a fair amount of words to so that they could be read aloud… for [adults] reading to a young child, as well as have great graphics, that would be a wonderful thing,” Friday said.
The Arnold resident and author was also inspired by the antics of her two British Shorthair cats, Signal and Telegraph, who are the main characters in her book “Signal’s Airport Adventure” with a theme of helping children prepare for air travel by sharing how the cats deal with common air travel issues.

With beautiful illustrations by Annapolis artist Phyllis Saroff, the book has become a treasure for kids, parents and grandparents alike. “When I do airport signings,” Friday said, “I get as many adults who have cats as I do children.”
Friday has already completed the second story and has planned a five book series, titled Tails from Friday Harbor ™. The author anticipates releasing her second book in Summer 2012. “Telegraph is the star of this book and she comes up with a rescue plan for an event that happens around a swimming pool,” she said.
