Maggie Moo’s Not Looking to Relocate in SP

Last week Patch reported that the and it does not appear as though the chain will be reopening a shop in Severna Park.

The article generated a lot of conversation on Patch and on the Severna Park Patch Facebook page. The conversation included speculation that the shop closed due to a raise in the rent.

The manager of the Columbia Maggie Moo’s, where callers of the Severna Park location are being directed, said the shop did not close due to a rent increase.

“They are planning to reopen, but not in Severna Park,” said Manager Jack Cheung. “The lease was over and they did not want to renew. The lease goes up 3 percent every year, but it did not increase more than that.”

Cheung said the managers of the Severna Park did not get along well with the landlord.

“The landlord didn’t raise the prices, but there were other disputes between the owners and the landlords,” Cheung said.

Calls to the leasing company for Maggie Moo's in Severna Park were not returned.

Throughout the comments Patch readers wrote that with all the ice cream shops that are around town, they weren’t surprised one would go out of business.

Reader Dorothy Franchak wrote, “This was to be expected with so many ice cream shops opening in SP in the last few years. We all love our ice cream; but, our bodies and our wallets can only handle a limited quantity of this seasonal treat. Unfortunately, this will probably not be the last of these businesses to be forced to close.”
