Organic Produce Delivered to Your Door

A Severna Park couple has expanded their herb business to include delivering organic produce in the county.

Combining the growing popularity of organic produce with online ordering and free delivery have Kathy and John Macpherson hopeful that their recently launched business Organic Express will fill a void for local consumers.

The couple—who live in West Severna Park—have expanded their already successful business KLP Specialties, which imports fresh herbs from a farm they partially own in Mexico, to provide 100 percent fresh organic produce delivery to central Anne Arundel County. They currently operate out of a warehouse in Elkridge, so adding the produce aspect makes an easy fit for incoming organic shipments, they said.

Pointing to the lack of selection and prices in grocery stores, the couple said their prices are competitive and the quality will be noticeable.

There's a full line of about 90 organic fruits and vegetables, recipes and specials featured daily on the website. They also work with local organic farmers whenever possible.

John Macpherson, a former chef, and Kathy Macpherson, who has years of experience in the produce market, came up with the idea of delivering organic produce about three weeks ago.

"It has been a nonstop past couple of weeks," they both said.

Putting together a product list and creating a new website have been all consuming, along with orders coming in daily.

"People are educated and know what they want and are better educated about the products. They want to go green and do what's good for the environment and good for the people eating it," said John Macpherson.

He said they've had a stream of orders come in since launching their website a few weeks ago. He's already delivered locally, including orders from his neighbors where he can easily drop the order housed in a recycled carton right on their porch.
