Sources from the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) confirm that the ongoing construction project is being done in response to a fuel tank leak on the property and ground water contamination. Work is continuing on the tank replacement and remediation, or clean up, in accordance with governmental regulations.
All of the cleaned ground water is being pumped from the filtration system straight into the storm water management system behind the store which eventually finds its way into Cypress Creek.

According to Jim Stein, district manager for the Anne Arundel Soil Conservation District who oversees sediment and erosion control for construction and agriculture, this is what new water management rules require. It’s all done in an effort to intercept the runoff before it reaches our waterways.
He also confirms that the MDE is the local agency overseeing the process and monitoring all of the efforts.
And just for the record, the storefront has remained open during all the construction and you haven’t had to wait for that Slurpee at all.
