Thursday marked the beginning of plebe summer for more than 1,200 incoming plebes.

This article was written and reported by D. Frank Smith.

More than 1,200 civilians formally became plebes in the annual induction ceremony at the United State Naval Academy on Thursday evening.

Patch recently talked to two Severna Park High School grads who were inducted on Thursday—Sam Pershall and Sierra Knoch. The pair are high school friends, and it was Pershall who inspired Knock's pursuit of the academy.

Both Pershall and Knoch hope so serve in the Navy as pilots after they graduate.
