Severna Park Senior Competes in Senior Idol Contest

Two county seniors to represent Anne Arundel in Idol competition.

Two seniors were selected Friday to represent Anne Arundel County in next month's Maryland Senior Idol competition. The audition, held at the , featured 12 singers—age 60 and above—who showcased their vocal abilities for the judges.

Jack Angel, 80, of Severna Park was a contestant. "I enjoyed it and was  impressed by the surroundings," he said. "It was well done and I was a little bit nervous."

Angel is no stranger to singing, he is a member of the Annapolis Chorale and also sings in the St. Mary's Church choir. For the Idol contest, he sang a medley of two songs. Although we wasn't a finalist, Angel said he enjoyed the experience.

Judges Tom Neuenschwander, professional music educator, and Carol Boyer, membership director for the , selected Shirley Valencia of Brooklyn and Betty Roesler of Severn to represent the county in the state-wide competition.

will take place March 30 at the Chesapeake Arts Center in Brooklyn Park. Tickets are $6 and proceeds benefit the Maryland Food Bank.
