Youth Ballet Corps Takes Sleeping Beauty for a Spin
Chesapeake Ballet Company announces Spring Ballet Dates
After 11 years, the Chesapeake Ballet Company (CBC) knows a little bit about what it takes to get through a Ballet season – mix one part volunteer sweat equity with five parts of youth dancers willing to give up every single Saturday to prepare for the company’s two yearly productions and, voila. CBC will end its season with a spring performance of Sleeping Beauty.
“There’s been a renewed interest in fairy tales due to movie remakes and television re-imagining. Now, our dancers have an opportunity to bring these stories to life on stage,” says Barbara Haskell, Executive Director and CBC Founder. “Ballets like Sleeping Beauty offer a chance for those who may not normally attend the Ballet to see a familiar story and get lost in the interpretation.”
The 60-member cast consists of Ballet dancers ranging in age from seven to 18. Soloists include:

Erin Diehl, Junior – Severna Park High School as Aurora
Cameron Pelton, Sophomore - Baltimore School for the Arts as The Prince

Amanda Griggs, Senior - Northeast High School in Pasadena as the White Cat
Regan Baker, Senior - Kent Island High School as Lilac Fairy
Lyndsay Brooks, Senior - Southern High School as Bo Peep
Lauren Corfman, Senior - Mount de Sales Academy as Sapphire Jewel.
Brooks White, age 12 - Severna Park Middle School as Puss n' Boots
Rounding out the cast are Heather Zampier, a dance teacher at George Fox Middle school, featured as Carabosse and Lindsay Moore as the Queen, a fourth-grade teacher at Georgetown East Elementary school.

About Chesapeake Ballet Company
Founded in 2004, the Chesapeake Ballet Company is a community-based organization dedicated to nurturing and inspiring the artistic development of children and young adults aged 6-18 through participation in all aspects of the theatrical experience. Housed in the studios of The Dance Academy in Severna Park, Maryland, CBC produces a traditional Nutcracker every winter, followed by a spring selection from its repertoire. Past spring performances have included Cinderella, Coppelia, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Snow Queen, and Sleeping Beauty.
