1 Dead In 3-Car Crash On Capital Beltway In Silver Spring: Police
The crash on the inner loop at Georgia Avenue injured multiple others and shut down lanes for several hours, authorities said.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A three-car crash on the Capital Beltway in Silver Spring claimed the life of one person, injured several others, and snarled traffic for hours Wednesday morning, according to police and reports.
According to Maryland State Police, troopers responded to the crash on the inner loop of Interstate 495 at Georgia Avenue around 3 a.m. Police said the crash happened when a Honda Accord struck a Jeep Wrangler and a Honda Civic while merging onto I-495 from southbound Georgia Avenue.
The drivers of all three vehicles and two passengers in the Civic were taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.

A passenger in the Accord was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.
Debris from the crash forced officials to close all three lanes of the Beltway for several hours, prompting rubbernecking delays on the outer loop stretched onto Interstate 95, authorities said.

All lanes reopened just after 7:30 a.m.
Authorities have not released the name of the person killed in the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
