A status update by the train operator described the individual struck as a "trespasser."

A Metro official confirmed to Patch that the individual had intentionally placed themselves in front of the train, explaining that anyone who enters a restricted area is considered a trespasser by the operator.

The MCFRS worked the scene alongside the Metro Transit Police Department and the WMATA emergency response teams to assess the situation.
