2 Manslaughter Charges Filed In Double Traffic Fatality From July 2022

A Silver Spring man faces multiple charges, including manslaughter, in the traffic deaths of an elderly married couple on July 12, 2022.

SILVER SPRING, VA — A Montgomery County grand jury indicted 24-year-old Daniel Alberto Aviles Gonzalez of Silver Spring in connection with a double fatal collision that occurred last July in the intersection of Georgia Avenue and May Street, according to a release.

Aviles Gonzalez is facing multiple charges in the deaths of 79-year-old Prabodh Vaid and 77-year-old Nirmala Vaid, a married couple who lived at the corner where the collision occurred.

An investigation by Montgomery County Police determined that Aviles Gonzalez was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee south on Georgia Avenue on July 12, 2022, when he struck the Vaids' Toyota Camry, which was turning left from northbound Georgia Avenue onto May Street. The couple died at the scene of the crash, according to police.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit investigation revealed that Aviles Gonzalez was driving at a high rate of speed while under the influence of alcohol.

Following his Feb. 2 indictment, Aviles Gonzalez was charged with two counts of grossly negligent manslaughter, two counts of vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol, driving suspended, and driving on a learner's permit without supervision.
