3 Charged In June Armed Robbery, Shooting Incident In Silver Spring

Montgomery County Police charged three men in connection with an armed robbery and shooting that occurred in Silver Spring last June.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Police arrested and charged three men in connection with an armed robbery and a separate shooting incident that occurred last June in Silver Spring, according to a police release.

In the first incident, four suspects robbed a man at gunpoint around 3 a.m., on June 9, in a parking garage located at 8100 Fenton St., according to police. The suspects then fled the area with the man's personal property.

In the second incident, three men approached a man around 3 a.m., on June 15, in the 900 block of Silver Spring Avenue. Police say the suspects displayed handguns and shot the victim, who was later treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Through their investigation, detectives identified 21-year-old Nathan Elijah Barnes, of Washington, D.C.; 21-year-old Demonte Martez Hewitt, of Washington, D.C., and 19-year-old Brian Odell Bowen, of Suitland, Maryland as suspects in the armed robbery and shooting.

On Aug. 9, police in Prince George's County arrested Barnes on unrelated charges. He was then transported to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility and held without bond.

U.S. Marshals arrested Hewitt on Oct. 28, in a Washington, D.C. courtroom, where he was appearing on an unrelated matter. Like Barnes, he was taken to the MCCF and held without bond, according to police.

On Dec. 13, U.S. Marshals arrested Bowen in Prince George's County and then took him to the MCCF, where he was held without bond, according to police.
