All Lanes Near Water Break Could Reopen by Rush Hour: Reports
Several homes were flooded by the break of a 16-inch water main along Georgia Avenue, officials say.
Repairs are well under way on a large water main break on Georgia Avenue in Wheaton that flooded streets and homes near the site, and officials hope to have all lanes of traffic open in time for the evening rush hour.
The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission says on Twitter that its crews continue to work at the site of the 16-inch water main break. WSSC official said the malfunctioning pipe is 68 years old.
Crews are repairing the pavement on Georgia Avenue. North- and southbound traffic are currently sharing the northbound side of Georgia Avenue between Randolph Road and Arcola Avenue, the utility says.

Three adults and three children were displaced from one house by the flooding, said Pete Piringer, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesman, via Twitter.
Several homes were flooded and WSSC’s Claims and Emergency Services team will work with homeowners to replace or repair any damage resulting from the water main break the utility says.

Once repairs are made and water is back in service, the affected area of the road will be repaved, WSSC said in a news release.
