SILVER SPRING, MD — John William Stacey, a 28-year-old Silver Spring man, was identified Monday as the driver who died over the weekend in a crash.
Montgomery County Police said Stacey suffered life-threatening injuries after the gray 2010 Mercedes he was driving struck a median curb on the northbound lanes of New Hampshire Avenue.
The collision subsequently prompted the vehicle to leave the road and crash into a tree.
Authorities were alerted to the crash on the 11800 block of New Hampshire Avenue on Saturday, just after 4:30 a.m.
Stacey was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Investigators said no other drivers were involved in the crash. It remains unclear what prompted the car to strike the median.
