Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue

Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue is a non-profit group of volunteers dedicating to helping place needy, often neglected Great Pyrenees dogs in new homes. We also educate others about this magnificent but little-known breed of dogs and help reunite lost dogs with their owners.

The dogs take their name from the mountain range in southwestern Europe where they long have been used as guardians of the flocks. In the United States, they are called Great Pyrenees. In their native France, they are Les Chiens de Montagne des Pyrenees, or Les Chiens des Pyrenees. Whatever the name, they are a beautiful, primarily white dog with a certain elegance that made them a favorite of French royalty.
