Attempted Armed Carjacking In Silver Spring Investigated By Police

A man pointed a handgun at a woman sitting in her white 2022 Lexus RX350​ in Silver Spring and demanded she surrender her keys, police say.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Police are investigating an attempted armed carjacking the occurred Oct. 11 in Silver Spring near the District of Columbia border, according to a police release.

Officers responded around 8:41 p.m., to the 8000 block of 13th Street for the report of an attempted carjacking. Police determined that a woman was sitting in the driver's seat of her white 2022 Lexus RX350, when a man opened the driver's side door, pointed a handgun, and demanded that she hand over her keys.

After refusing the demand, the woman screamed for help, but the suspect forcibly removed her from the Lexus, according to police. Witnesses intervened and shouted that they were going to call the police. The suspect then took the victim's kets, ran off, and left the area in a dark colored Toyota.

Police described the suspect as a skinny Black man, about 25-years of age, who stood 5-foot-7 and was armed with a black handgun. The suspect was wearing a black baseball cap and a green hooded sweatshirt.
