Barbara Schoeberl To Compete as "Dancing Star" at Alzheimer's Association Memory Ball Apr. 18
Premier Baltimore Event to Raise Funds for the Disease
SILVER SPRING, Md. – Barbara Schoeberl has enjoyed recreational ballroom dancing for most of her life and has even used it to recover from trauma and improve her health. Now, she is preparing to return to the dance floor in order to help others.
The Silver Spring resident will be one of 10 performing as a “Dancing Star” at the Alzheimer’s Association’s Memory Ball, Saturday, Apr. 18, from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel.
This premier Baltimore event – emceed by ABC2 News Anchor Jamie Costello – features cocktails, dinner and music by local band, Highway Star. The highlight is the dance competition to win the Judge’s Choice Trophy for best dance and the You’re Our Star Trophy based on “votes” tied to donations ($1 per vote online and at the event).

No stranger to supporting the Alzheimer’s Association, Barbara has been active in donating to Alzheimer’s research since her mother died from complications of dementia in 2009. She also was involved in a previous Memory Ball by supporting her son, Matt Misroch, a professional dancer who performed with “Dancing Star” Champion Jane Sewell.
Now, Barbara is thrilled for the opportunity to make a bigger difference by being a “Dancing Star” herself. Raising money for research to combat this disease is far more important to her than the recent first and second place winnings she has in a recent ballroom dance competition.

At the Memory Ball, Barbara will perform a slow Fox Trot to the song, “We’ll Meet Again” by She & Him.
“My mother and I needed much more time together than we had in this short life. Since none of us know what will happen after we pass away, I choose to find comfort in the hope that my mother and I will meet again and share another life together,” Barbara explained. “This song is for anyone who has lost a loved one and yearns to meet again.”

Event proceeds will fund supportive services of the Alzheimer’s Association and critical research for a cure. More than 5 million Americans are living with the disease, 97,000 in Maryland and every 67 seconds that number increases by one. Alzheimer’s is the only cause of death among the top 10 in America that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Its mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Its vision is a world without Alzheimer’s®. Visit www.alz.org or call 800.272.3900.
