Beneficial Insect Talk

Beneficial Insect Talk on Mon Sept 15 is hosted by the Silver Spring Garden Club. Free and open to the public.

The Silver Spring Garden Club is hosting a talk on Attracting Beneficial Bugs to Your Garden

Understanding the cycle of predator and prey is an integral part of growing organically. Using information assembled for her newest book, Attracting Beneficial Bugs to Your Garden: A Natural Approach to Pest Control, Jessica Walliser shines some light on the methods needed to attract beneficial insects to the garden – and keep them there. She presents ground-breaking university research regarding the intricate connection between plants and insects, and explains the need for maintaining the garden’s natural balance. Jessica describes over a dozen species of beneficial insects found across North America and accompanies the lecture with beautiful images of the predators themselves and their favorite host plants. You’ll never look at bugs the same way again!
Jessica Walliser co-hosts “The Organic Gardeners” on KDKA-Radio in Pittsburgh, PA. She is a former contributing editor for Organic Gardening magazine and a regular contributor to Fine Gardening, Urban Farm, Popular Farming, Hobby Farms and Hobby Farm Home magazines. Jessica writes two weekly gardening columns for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Jessica received her degree in ornamental horticulture from The Pennsylvania State University, and she is the former owner of a 25 acre organic market farm. She also serves on the faculty of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens where she’s been teaching for nearly 20 years. Jessica lives and gardens northwest of Pittsburgh with her husband and son, eight chickens, one hermit crab, one dog, and billions and billions of very good bugs.
Jessica’s book will be for sale following her talk and she will be available to sign it.
