SILVER SPRING, MD — Can't wait until the weekend starts? Lucky for you, there are a ton of events going on this week in Silver Spring. Kick off the week with a Black History Month event at the library, go to a parenting 101 class and even learn how to salsa dance.

Check out this Black History Month event with Georgetown University Law Center professor Sheryll Cashin, author of "Place not Race: A New Vision of Opportunity in America," and journalist and author Eric Weiner. Join in for a compelling discussion and audience Q&A about the social costs of racial preferences and the state of race relations in general Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. A book signing will follow and coffee will be served courtesy of Kefa Cafe.
Parenting 101

At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what their child might need. Join local counselor and psychotherapist, Dr. Elaina Vasserman Stokes, in learning how to: Understand your child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs, support your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions, and enhance the development of your child's self esteem. Program will be held on 5th floor in Program Room Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. Children are allowed to accompany parents.
Salsa Class With Barbara Bernstein
This Salsa dancing class is great fun and appropriate for all levels of dancers. Beginners will learn basic moves and experienced dancers will be shown more advanced moves so that everyone is learning something new. Check it out at 5:30 p.m. at the UMD Stamp Student Union in College Park.
Fundamentals of Printmaking with David Brosch
Introduction to three printmaking media, the monotype, linocut, and collagraph. Students will be shown the special attributes of each medium. They will be instructed how to use each to create art work by drawing, transferring, painting, cutting, and constructing imagery on blocks or plates and subsequent printing. There will be numerous demonstrations during the class. Examples of completed monotypes, linocuts and collagraphs will be shown. The class will be held 6 p.m. Friday at the UMD Stamp Student Union in College Park.
