First Degree Assault Charge Levied Against 13-Year-Old: Police

A 13-year-old boy faces a first degree assault charge in connection with an Aug. 1 shooting in Silver Spring.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Police arrested a suspect in conneciton with a shooting that took place Aug. 1 in the 1500 block of November Circle in Silver Spring.

Through their detectives work, investigators identified a 13-year-old boy as a suspect in the shooting. They shared this information with the 3rd District Community Action Team.

On Nov. 3, members of the 3D CATTeam witnessed a black Toyota Rav4 commit traffic violations in the 11500 block of Stewart Lane. They pulled the car over in the New Hampshire Avenue and Elton Road area.

When the officers approached the Toyota, they identified one of the seven occupants as a suspect wanted in the November Circle shooting. When the officers had arrested the suspect, they found a loaded 9mm handgun in his possession. Searching the vehicle, officers found additional loaded handguns and large amounts of marijuana.

The Toyota's six underage occupants were arrested. They face charges related to the posseession of a firearm.

The 13-year-old suspect in the Oct. 26 shooting was charged with first-degree assault and possession of firearms-related charges. He was then taken to the juvenile detention center.
