Giant Pink Breast Cancer Ribbon Adorns Leisure World Of Maryland Globe.
Bow will be seen by 35,000 drivers who pass by each day.

To raise awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, Leisure World of Maryland has installed a 13-foot pink bow on the iconic globe sculpture at its Georgia Avenue entrance. The bow is meant to remind 35,000 drivers who pass the globe each day and the 8500 residents of the active adult community of the benefits of early detection and action.
While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. When a Leisure World resident suggested that the community participate in a big way, the 35-foot-tall globe at Georgia Avenue and Leisure World Boulevard offered an ideal opportunity. “This is a very caring and supportive community with outstanding medical resources and facilities,” said General Manager Kevin Flannery. “We’re glad we have this unique way to remind our residents - and also our neighbors - to avail themselves of the resources and support that’s available,” he added.
Though not an assisted living community, Leisure World of Maryland offers its residents a host of outstanding of medical options and programs designed to help with whatever ailment or injury that might arise. The MedStar Health Center, located inside the community, provides a broad spectrum of healthcare services. In addition, the community offers a huge variety of organizations and clubs, such as FISH (Friends In Sickness and Health), that offer support for those who need it.
