Manslaughter, Drug Charges Filed Against Silver Spring Man In Fatal Fentanyl Overdose

Police arrested a 22-year-old Silver Spring man Tuesday in connection with a fatal fentanyl overdose that occurred last Christmas.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A 22-year-old Silver Spring man is facing manslaughter and distribution of a controlled substance charges for causing the death of an adult male who overdosed last Christmas, according to Montgomery County Police.

After examining the victim, the chief medical examiner determined that he had died from fentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl intoxication.

Through their investigation, detectives ascertained that Alvarez Paz had sold drugs to the victim on the morning of Dec. 25, 2022. Lab results returned on May 3 revealed that the drug found in the victim's possession was fentanyl, according to police.

After arresting Avarez Paz on Tuesday in Silver Spring, police transported him to the Montgomery County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bail.
