Matchbox Pizza Chain Opens Downtown Silver Spring Location

SILVER SPRING, MD — Matchbox, the popular D.C.-based pizza chain, has opened in downtown Silver Spring.

Located at 919 Ellsworth Dr., the 6,000-square-foot, 150-seat space is the restaurant group's 12th location. Matchbox Silver Spring is the first restaurant to open under Thompson Hospitality Corp., a food and restaurant service group that began managing Matchbox Food Group in 2018.

"Since joining forces with Matchbox last summer, our vision has been to expand thoughtfully and deliberately by focusing on the region that has embraced the group for more than 15 years," said Warren Thompson, president and chairman of Thompson Hospitality. "Beginning with the opening in Silver Spring, each new restaurant will reflect the feedback and suggestions we welcome from guests. Expect to see changes like smaller properties, more flexible seating options for large groups, particularly in the bar, separate lunch and dinner menus, and an emphasis on carryout and delivery."

According to officials representing Matchbox, the new restaurant is the first in the group to have separate lunch and dinner menus — a change that will take effect in both new and existing properties. What else: there is now a Brunchbox menu. The menu, available during brunch on weekends, features bottomless mimosas and bloody marys, as well as a selection of unlimited small plates.

Matchbox Silver Spring opened its doors on April 5.
