Montgomery County's First STEM Summit Set For Feb. 26
Councilmember Hans Riemer is holding the first ever Montgomery County STEM Summit.
SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County is holding it's first STEM Summit from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26. The goal of the summit is to create a vision for an effective STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) engagement strategy for Montgomery County.
The summit will kick off at 12:30 p.m. with check-in and networking. At 1 p.m. residents will hear a welcome message from Councilmember Hans Riemer, and at 1:15 p.m. MCPS Superintendent Jack R. Smith will present "The Future of STEM in MCPS."
The first panel is “The Future of STEM, Pre-K-12 Education,” with a question-and-answer session. Panelists include: Gabe Albornoz, Director, Montgomery County Department of Recreation; Parker Hamilton, Director, Montgomery County Public Libraries; Cara Lesser, Founder and Executive Director, KID Museum; and Michael Robbins, Director, District of Learning.

The next panel is “The Future of STEM, College and Workforce,” with a question-and-answer session. The panelists are: Stewart Edelstein, Ph.D., Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Executive Director, Universities at Shady Grove; Brian Gaines, CEO, MdBio Foundation; DeRionne Pollard, Ph.D., President, Montgomery College; and Jenesis Rothblatt, Inspirational Founder/Project Leader, Corporate Telepresence & Robotics, United Therapeutics Corporation.
The summit will end at 4 p.m.
