Multiple Charges Filed In New Year's Day Shooting In Silver Spring
A suspect wanted in a New Year's Day shooting in Silver Spring is in custody of the U.S. Marshal Service and awaiting extradition.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Police charged a 28-year-old Washington, D.C. man with attempted second-degree murder for a shooting that took place New Year's Day in Silver Spring, according to a release.
Officers responded around 6:05 p.m., on Jan. 1 to the 8500 block of 16th Street for the report of a shooting. Police found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, according to the release. The officers provided life-saving measures until the arrival of Montgomery County Fire & Rescue personnel, who then took the man to the hospital in critical condition.
Through their investigation, police determined that Maurice Ricks had drawn a gun and shot the victim following an argument, according to the release.

MCDP detectives obtained an arrest warrant that charged Ricks with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and use of firearm in the commission of a violent felony.
On Jan. 13, members of the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Ricks and took him to a correctional facility in the District, where he is awaiting extradition to Montgomery County, according to the police.
