Multiple Charges Filed In Strong-Armed Robbery Of Silver Spring Store

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Police arrested 41-year-old Terry Claude Tompkins of Temple Hills, Maryland in connection the strong-armed robbery last month at a Silver Spring hardware store, according to a police release.

Around 4 p.m., on July 30, police responded for the report of a shoplifting in progress at the Ace Hardware store in the 800 block of Wayne Ave.

An investigation determined that a suspect, later identified by police as Tompkins, had entered the store and began stealing electrical cable and wire items. When a store employee tried to intervene, Tompkins assaulted them and stole the victim's cellphone, according to police.

Police arrested Tompkins on Tuesday in Prince George's County, where they say he was involved in another incident. Police charged Tompkins with strong armed robbery, theft and assault for the incident at the Ace Hardware store. He remains at the Prince George’s County Detention Facility awaiting service of the arrest warrant, according to police.
