Officials Seek Community Input On Redevelopment Of Acorn Urban Park
Silver Spring officials want to hear from the community regarding their hopes and vision for the Acorn Urban Park redevelopment project.
SILVER SPRING, MD — Want to get involved in improving Acorn Urban Park in Silver Spring? Head over to the public meeting at the Silver Spring Civic Center on March 28.
Montgomery Park Officials are working to renovate the park, located at the intersection of East West Highway and Newell Street in the Central Business District. The 0.3-acre park at 8060 Newell St. is surrounded by high density residential and commercial retail development.
Officials wish to restore the historic features of the park while also improving the park to better serve nearby communities.

The park contains many significant historical ties to Silver Spring — like the original "Silver Spring" for which the town was named after.
Aditionally, Acorn Urban Park holds the acorn gazebo, which was part of the Blair Farm before it was moved to the park.

The first community meeting regarding the park is March 28. Officials want to solicit community input to see what residents hope for the redevelopment of the park.
After this meeting, officials will work to develop park renovation concept alternatives based on existing conditions assessment and community input.
A second community meeting will be held at some point over the summer to present and receive feedback on proposed park renovation concepts.
By the spring of 2018, officials will develop a detailed design.
The March 28 meeting will take place from 7-9 p.m. in the Spring Room at the Silver Spring Civic Center at 1 Veterans Place. Attendees can park on-street parking or in the Town Square Garage at 801 Ellsworth Drive.
