Tax Fraud Blotter: Get your stolen checks here (accountingtoday.com) — Federal prosecutors say a tax prep firm based in Silver Spring, Integrated Multi Services Inc., was used to file at least 120 fraudulent PPP loan applications totaling about $2.3 million. The owner, from nearby Hyattsville, has pleaded guilty and faces up to 20 years in prison, a reminder to local residents to be cautious about who handles their financial paperwork.
   

2. Silver Spring man charged with rape, assault in Takoma Park, police say (wusa9.com) — A man from Silver Spring has been charged with multiple serious offenses after police say an 18-year-old reported an assault that occurred at a Takoma Park residence. Officers first responded to White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring, then later arrested the suspect at the Takoma Park Police Department. The case is now being handled through Montgomery County's central processing system.
   

3. FDA approves updated COVID vaccines. Here's what you need to know (abcnews.com) — Silver Spring gets a brief spotlight as home to the FDA offices that just approved updated 2026–27 COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna, Pfizer, and Sanofi. The shots target the XFG omicron variant and will roll out nationwide soon, with strong recommendations for older adults, people with certain health conditions, pregnant patients, and very young children.
   

4. FDA Seeks Medical Officer to Evaluate Cardiovascular Devices (evtoday.com) — If you're a vascular surgeon living in or near Silver Spring, the FDA is hiring a medical officer based at its Silver Spring headquarters or remotely. The role focuses on evaluating cardiovascular devices, reviewing clinical trials, and shaping safety policies.
