Police Investigate Attempted Armed Robbery, Assault

A woman attacked by a robber with a knife while walking near the Forest Park Apartments in the 9300 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring is expected to survive her serious injuries, police say.

Montgomery County Police say the attempted armed robbery happened Monday night when the woman was approached by a suspect who demanded money. When she refused, the suspect knocked her to the ground and attacked her with a knife.

A passerby who saw the attack called police. The suspect ran toward the apartment complex.

Investigators say the suspect is an Hispanic male of medium height, wearing a scarf over his face, and wearing a dark shirt.
