Rally, March Planned After Cop Heard Using Racial Slur In Video

SILVER SPRING, MD — The Silver Spring Justice Coalition is staging a rally and march to protest a video circulating social media that purportedly shows a white Montgomery County police officer using a racial slur while talking to black men.

The video was captured on May 9 during an interaction between officers and four men at the McDonald's located at 11146 New Hampshire Ave. in Silver Spring. Police say they were dispatched to the fast food restaurant to investigate trespassers.

In the video, the female police officer can be heard using the N-word.

In response to this video, community activists said they will be holding a rally, march, and press conference Monday evening in Silver Spring.

The rally is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at White Oak Library. Protestors will then march to the 3rd District police station for a press conference at 7 p.m.

Speakers include Councilmember Will Jawando, Maryland Del. Jheanelle Wilkins, NAACP political action chair Jo Saint-George County, and residents who have experienced racial profiling.

"The officer who used the N-word has lost the trust of the public and should be decommissioned as a matter of course so that we don't pass our 'bad apples' on to other police departments in Maryland or other states," the Silver Spring Justice Coalition said in a statement.

The coalition says its goal is to "stop police violence and abuse in Montgomery County and Maryland through legislative, policy, and public education initiatives."
