Rape Charge Filed Against DC Man For Metro Station Assault: Police
Metro Transit Police arrested a 38-year-old Washington, D.C. man for an early morning assault at the Silver Spring Transit Center.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Metro Transit Police arrested 38-year-old Tiwan D. Sweet of Washington, D.C., in connection with an attempted rape early Thursday morning at the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center in Silver Spring, according to a police release.
MTPD police said a preliminary investigation revealed that Sweet tried to force himself on and physically assault a woman who was waiting around 3 a.m., on Thursday, at the transit center.
The victim shouted for help, which brought Montgomery County police officers to the scene to stop the assault and detain Sweet, authorities said.

Sweet was taken into custody by MTPD and charged with attempted first-degree rape.
"This is a heinous crime against an innocent victim and the community is now safer with this arrest,” said MTPD Chief Michael Anzallo, in a release. “We appreciate the assistance of Montgomery County Police who arrived quickly on scene and stopped the suspect.”
