Man Wanted For 3 Bank Robberies Handed Note Saying He Had A Bomb, Gun

Montgomery County police believe the same suspect may have robbed three banks since the beginning of the year.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Police released photos Friday of a masked suspect they believe was involved in a series of bank robberies in the area, including one in Silver Spring, according to a police release.

The first robbery occurred around 3:10 p.m., on Jan. 18, when a man entered the Sandy Spring Bank in the 3500 block of Spencerville Road in Burtonsville and passed a note to a teller demanding money. After the teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, the man left the bank and fled in an unknown direction, according to police.

A similar robbery took place on Feb. 18 at the M&T Bank in the 12200 block of Tech Road in Silver Spring. The man handed a note to the teller asking for money, the teller gave him an undisclosed amount of currency, and the man left, according to police.

The most recent robbery occurred around 10:05 a.m., on March 12, at the Capitol One Bank in the 13300 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Colesville. Like the other robberies, the man handed a note to teller and demanded money, according to the report.

Police described the suspect as a Black man, around 40-years-old, who stood 5-foot-10 with a medium build. In each robbery, the man wore one black glove and one blue latex glove. All of the notes the suspect passed to the tellers said he had a gun and a bomb, according to police.

MCDP is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest of the bank robbery suspect. Callers can remain anonymous.
