Silver Spring Bank Robbery Suspect Seen Wearing Red Cap: Police

The Montgomery County Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a Silver Spring bank early Friday afternoon.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Police are trying to find a suspect in an armed robbery who was wearing a light-colored polo shirt when he entered a Silver Spring bank and demanded money early Friday afternoon.

Officers were called to the Truist bank in the 1100 block of Wayne Ave. at 12:25 p.m. Friday for the report of an armed robbery.

The suspect entered the bank and approached an employee. He displayed a black handgun and demanded money, police said. The employee handed over an undisclosed amount of money to the man, who then left the bank.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 50 and 60-years-old, armed with a black handgun, wearing black sunglasses, a red baseball cap, a light-colored polo shirt, beige pants, and black or white shoes, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

Police detectives released photos of the suspect that they retrieved from the surveillance footage at the bank and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the armed robbery is asked to call the Montgomery County Police Department’s Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070, or 240-773-TIPS, or contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect. Callers can remain anonymous, police said.
