Silver Spring-Based Band Launches CD Kickstarter
The Misbehavin' Maidens, an a cappella group who has performed at local venues for 2 years, launched their debut album Kickstarter today.

The Misbehavin' Maidens have brought their unique combination of humorous folk, modern parodies, and shanties to Piratz Tavern and The Limerick Pub in Silver Spring, The Weirdo Show in D.C., and John Strongbow’s Tavern in Alexandria, as well as fandom conventions along the Eastern seaboard. One of the members of the band resides in Laurel; the other three in Silver Spring.
The Kickstarter campaign, which has already raised their initial goal of $3,000 to fund the creation of a 6-song EP, now is shooting for a “stretch goal” of $5,000 to fund a full-length album. The campaign will run through Feb. 4.
The group describes themselves as “lewd lyrical lasses with tight chorals and loose morals: cosplayers singing nerdy and dirty songs with pretty harmonies.” While all of the ladies come from a pirate background (three of them hailing from other local bands Pirates for Sail and Scales and Crosstones), they like to embrace a wide range of subcultures, from steampunk to anime.

Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects. Every project creator sets their project’s funding goal and deadline. If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. But Kickstarter is all-or-nothing: If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers’ credit cards are charged when time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged.
