An SUV crashed into a tree; Montgomery County Police are investigating if speed, alcohol and passengers not wearing seat belts contributed.

Police are investigating whether speed and alcohol played a role in a one-vehicle crash early Monday morning that killed three people -- including two from Silver Spring -- and sent five more to area hospitals.
The Montgomery County Police Department was called to the accident scene about 3:20 a.m. Nov. 24 on East-West Highway in the area of Washington Avenue. Three vehicle passengers were declared dead at the scene.
The SUV driver -- Evelyn Martinez, 32, of the 5400 block of Whitfield Chapel Road in Lanham -- and four passengers were taken to local hospitals. One of the passengers suffered serious injuries; the other four people taken to the hospital appear to have non-life-threatening injuries.
