Support Ending Teen Dating Abuse Through Choose Respect
Practice Yoga Sun Salutations and Make a Contribution

Dating abuse can be prevented and one of the best interventions is teaching youth about healthy versus unhealthy relationships. All donations made to https://pages.donately.com/chooserespect/campaign/breathe-in-speak-out-montgomery-county-9cb41ca2d961/ will be used to support Montgomery County’s Choose Respect Initiative 2022. Programs include RespectFest, video entry contests, and Expect Respect. One hundred percent of contributions will be used to fund Choose Respect.
Yogis and non-yogis alike are urged to participate in “Breathe In, Speak Out Montgomery County,” to raise funds for Choose Respect, a program of Montgomery County’s Domestic Violence Coordinating Committee. Participants will focus on performing 108 sun salutations (or less) to honor those affected by intimate partner abuse or can donate to Choose Respect directly.
Individuals who would like a refresher sun salutation or would like to be led through 108 of them can join in on October 8th at 2 PM and October 9th at 11 AM. The event will take place on the DVCC’s Facebook Live and can be accessed at https://www.facebook.com/mocodvcc. Willow Street Yoga Center in Takoma Park will host the virtual sessions. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). In 1989 the U.S. Congress passed Public Law 101-112 designating October of that year as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Each year since, domestic violence organizations all over the nation have championed a month’s worth of educational, outreach, and supportive events to increase awareness of this tragic social issue. It is our combined hope that, someday, we will have a world free of domestic violence.
