Suspect In Armed Robbery Of Postal Carrier In Silver Spring Arrested

SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Police detectives charged a Washington, D.C. man in connection with the Jan. 23 armed robbery of a U.S. Postal carrier in Silver Spring, according to a release.

Working in tandem, MCDP detectives and members of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service determined that 41-year-old Harold Barnes had approached the victim in the 800 block of Hudson Avenue, pointed a firearm, and demand his property, according to police. Once the victim complied, Barnes left the scene.

Around 8:15 p.m. that same day, police officers in Arlington County, Virginia conducted a traffic stop involving a stolen 2017 Hyundai Tucson. They arrested the driver, who turned out to be Barnes. Police recovered property belonging to the victim on Barnes' person and found items of evidentiary value inside the stolen car, according to police.

Barnes is currently being held without bond in an Arlington County correctional facility and awaiting extradition to Montgomery County, according to police. He faces charges of armed robbery, first-degree assault and use of firearm in the commission of violent crime.
